MODULE 1
KNOWING AND
UNDERSTANDING ONSELF
DURING MIDDLE AND LATE
ADOLESCENCE
After going through this lesson, you are
expected to:
1. Explain that knowing oneself can make a
person accept his/her strengths and
limitations and dealing with others better.
2. Share his/her unique characteristics,
habits and experience
BIG QUESTION:
How can you understand
Yourself?
self-acceptance and
better relationship with
others?
Imagine yourself
looking into the
mirror.
What do you
see?
Do you see your
ideal self...
or your actual
self?
Self –C0ncept
refers to your
awareness of yourself.
IDEAL SELF
it is the self that
you aspire to
be.
IDEAL SELF
It is the one that you
hope will possess
characteristics similar
to that of a mentor of
some other worldly
figure.
ACTUAL SELF
It is the one that you
actually see.
ACTUAL SELF
It is the self that has
characteristics that you
were nurtured or, in
some cases, born to
have.
The actual self is
built on
self-knowledge
is derived from social
interactions that
provide insight
into how others react
to you.
The actual self is
who we actually are.
It is how we think,
how we feel, look ,
and act.
The actual self can
be seen by others, but
because we have no
way of truly knowing
how others view us,
the actual self is our
self-image.
The ideal self, on
the other hand, is
how we want to be.
IDEAL -SELF
It is an idealized
image that we have
developed over
time, based on what we
have learned and
experienced.
The ideal self could
include components
of what our parents
taught us,
what we admire in
others, what our
society promotes,
and what we think
is our best interest.
Knowing and understanding oneself can make you
accept your strengths, limitations, ability to deal
with other people. It also helps you to value
yourself.
Knowing and understanding yourself is important
because it would help you improve your
decision-making habits, in setting and reaching
appropriate goals and to be more productive on
your daily life.
Getting to know yourself might be a tricky thing to do
since you're still in the middle of maturing, you still
don't know how these things would affect you, if it'll
affect you positively or negatively. You can follow
these simple steps in order to make things easier

 Getting to know your personality.

 Get to know your core values.
 Get to know your body
 Get to know your dreams
Getting to know your personality.
Knowing your personality is one step to
understanding yourself.
The idea is to get to know your
personality inside out, not only the
personality towards yourself but also the
way you treat others. This we'll help you
understand who you really are.
Get to know your core values. Your core
value are the morale codes and the
principles you hold near and dear to your
heart.
Your core values will play big roles in
decision-making, influencing, persuading,
conflict-resolution, communication, and
living your day to day life.
Get to know your body. Don't
only focus on your strengths and
weaknesses emotionally, try
considering your strengths and
weaknesses physically as well.
Get to know your dreams. Your
dreams and hopes create the pathway
into your future.
They help you build the life you can be
proud of living. Your dreams matter, no
matter how small or big it is, if you really
want to pursue your dreams you have to
be passionate about it.
Though this might be a hard journey,
you must not pressure yourself too
much in knowing and understanding
yourself. Just take it easy, as long as
you follow those steps, you'll get to
fully know and understand yourself.
