DUALBAND CIRCULARLY POLARIZED

DIELECTRIC RESONATOR ANTENNA

FOR C-BAND AND X-BAND
APPLICATIONS
INTRODUCTION

ANTENNA:
• An antenna is a device or mechanism that is made of metallic material and absorbs or emits
electromagnetic waves, also called electromagnetic radiation. Antennas are used for many types of
telecommunication, a type of long-distance communication that uses radio waves to transmit
messages which are then converted into audio or other mediums.
DRA:
• A dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is a microwave antenna, typically constructed of ceramic for its
high Q potential, that contains a radiated wave with its sharp transition from a higher dielectric
constant to air.
ABSTRACT:

• Dielectric resonator antennas (DRA's) have been a potential candidate for microwave
and millimetre-wave frequency band over the last two decades, because of its attractive
advantages such as wide impedance bandwidth, low metallic loses, higher radiation
efficiency, low profile, minimum surface waves and low dissipation loss, compared to
conventional metallic patch antenna. In this article dual band circularly polarized
dielectric resonator antenna placed on Rogers RT-5880/FR-4 substrate material with a
height of 1.6mm by giving slot coupled (or) microstrip lined feeding methodology to get
circular polarization and dual band. The frequency Band's are operating at C-band and X-
band the corresponding frequencies are approximately 5GHz to 12GHz.It is to be
observed the gain should be approximately 4dB to 6dB and the actual ratio should be
3dB.The above design should be done in ANSYS HFSS TOOL
BASE PAPER:

• In this communication, the aperture coupled modified rectangular dielectric resonator

antenna (DRA) is designed and studied. The modified rectangular DRA is the same as
Swastik shape. An asymmetrical microstrip line-fed aperture stimulated a triple radiating
mode pattern inside the ceramic material, that is, TE111,TEx211 and TEy121,
respectively. Swastik-shaped ceramic radiator provides two important advantages: (a)
lower Q-factor, which in turn improves the impedance bandwidth, and (b) the creation
of degenerated orthogonal mode with 90 phase shifts, which provides CP waves in one
of the operating bands.
