WHAT IS A FILTER PRESS?
A filter press is a separation process and equipment used for
The solids are retained as a cake on the filter cloths, and the
1. Plate and Frame Filter Press: This is one of the most common types. It consists of a series of filter plates and frames that are pressed together to form a filtration chamber.
2. Recessed Plate Filter Press: In this type, the plates have a recessed area in the middle where the filter cake is formed, allowing for higher capacity.
3. Membrane Filter Press: These filter presses have flexible membranes between the plates to squeeze the filter cake further, reducing moisture content.
4. Chamber Filter Press: These presses have a chamber or space between the plates where the filter cake is formed, resulting in drier cakes.
5. Belt Filter Press: Instead of plates, this type uses two continuous belts to dewater sludge or slurry.
6. Drum Filter Press: In this design, the filtration occurs on the outer surface of a rotating drum.
7. Pressure Filter: These are designed to operate under high pressure and are used in applications such as chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
8. Vacuum Filter: These filter presses use a vacuum to draw liquid through the filter medium.
9. Batch Filter Press: These are designed for intermittent filtration of smaller quantities.
10. Automatic Filter Press: Equipped with automation features, these filter presses can operate with minimal manual intervention.
The choice of filter press type depends on factors like the nature of the slurry or liquid being filtered, desired moisture content in the filter cake, and the scale of the
filtration process.
IN OUR FACTORY THERE ARE THREE TYPE OF FILTERPRESS
1. Plate and Frame Filter Press: This is one of the most common types. It
consists of a series of filter plates and frames that are pressed together to form
a filtration chamber.
2. Recessed Plate Filter Press: In this type, the plates have a recessed area in the
middle where the filter cake is formed, allowing for higher capacity.
Filtration: The slurry passes through a series of filter plates that are coated with filter cloth. These plates are stacked together, leaving a
space for the filtrate (liquid) to flow through.
Pressure: Hydraulic or mechanical pressure is applied to the filter plates, compressing the filter cake (solid particles) and reducing the
volume of the chamber. This pressure helps in separating the liquid from the solids.
Filtrate collection: The liquid, known as filtrate, exits the filter press through outlets or channels in the filter plates and is collected for
further processing or disposal.
Cake removal: Once the filtration process is complete, the solid cake formed between the filter plates can be easily removed, often by
manually or mechanically opening the press.
Cleaning: The filter plates are cleaned, and the process can be repeated for the next batch of slurry.
The filter press works on the principle of mechanical separation through pressure and filtration, making it an efficient and widely used method for
dewatering and separating solids from liquids in various industrial applications, including wastewater treatment, chemical processes, mining, and
more.
