I started watching the Wheel of Time on Prime Video, and I’m a couple of episodes in so far. It seems pretty interesting, and the special effects are impressive.

I have to admit, I’ve never read the books. This seems to be good as I don’t know how many changes they have made from the source material. I can view this on its own merits, and so far it seems like it has potential.
I've only read the first 4 novels (The Shadow Rising). By that time, I thought the tale had grown enormously convoluted and the lead character was still a child when all the people around him had grown in so many ways.

Still, it has been many years since I read any of them and I enjoyed cable series.

My wife and I watched the first 4 episodes of Poker Face, really enjoying it so far, looking forward to more episodes. It's by Rian Johnson, the same guy that did Knives Out and Glass Onion.

The protagonist has an uncanny ability to tell whenever someone is lying. She is on the run from a casino mob boss and each episode is her stopping into some random town or city, and while she is there, she ends up solving a murder.

The first third of the episode shows the lead up and conclusion of the murder, and the second two thirds are her working out exactly who did it and why. It's an interesting take on the whole who dunnit since you know up front, but really enjoyable show, highly recommend.
This is really good, thanks for the rec - up to episode 5 tonight!

I've read the books and must say: they've done a good job adapting them. The TV-series is much more 'inclusive' then the books (to the point of being faintly ludicrous: an isolated mountain village boasting such a diverse population...) but the series does really well in capturing the essence of the books. And Nynaeve is a lot less annoying in the TV series, which is a bonus :)

Any good?
It's OK. The story's generally sound, the lead girl's great (reminds me of Florence Pugh a little), some of the others less so. I've got through the series, even if there were times I wasn't giving it my full attention. 3/5.

1923's second season (or rather the 2nd half of the first season...however they do that these days) debuted last night. Didn't watch it, but we will tonight.

Everyone, genre reviewers, the NYT, one of my kids, are giving this series raves. Unfortunately our Netflix keeps dropping its signal and sice it's a bandit subscription from some relative of my daughter I can't really complain. I'll find a work around.
In the meantime I gave Picard a second try. Only two episodes into it, but the second season is not much better.

I really wanted to like Picard. But never got past a couple of episodes of the first season. :(

Lol - I had the exact same thing. Just wasn't for me, although I really wanted it to be. Now binging Jack Ryan - which is actually quite a bit better than I expected!

I watched the last episode of the current His Dark Materials series today. As a series I thought it was well done, mainly because the producers didn't tinker with the books too much. Just before the end credits they sort of hint at Lyra returning for another series, but I know for a fact that Pullman is struggling to finish the Secret Commonwealth trilogy. Hope they don't decide to go ahead anyway and make a muck mess of it like in GOT.

I'm not sure if it was accurate or not, but there didn't seem to be much interest from HBO or BBC to do more after this series. I haven't read anything from his Book of Dust series, have you? If so, would you recommend?

Yes, I've read the first two. Not quite as good as the first trilogy which the TV series was based on, but it's still Pullman so is always worth a read. But I'd wait for it to be finished first, Berlyn.

I really enjoyed the first trilogy. I haven't got around to watching the third season yet, I'll probably get around to it sometime in the next few months.

Watched Mystery Road: Origin, Australian serial killer drama. It was okay but not great. Gave the old classic The Fugitive a shot, but was not impressed. FInished season 2 of The Flight Attendant: it was good, but not as good as season one, then attemped Penance, hated it and dropped it after episode one, after which I tried Everyone Else Burns, which I really hated, and also dropped.
Watched DI Ray, which was very good - only four parts and ended a lot more downbeat than I had expected: not sure if there's another season planned. Concerns a cop trying to solve a murder and prove it was NOT an honour killing. The Teacher was good too - three-part series about a teacher falsely accused of having sex with one of her pupils. Terrible ending though. Tried The North Water, but it was so depressing gave it up after half an hour then went on to Reginald the Vampire, which I totally loved. Now watching Identity, with Keeley Hawes and Aidan Gillen. Good so far, about a special cop team tasked with tackling identity theft.
