Kitesurf Bars
What Is a Kite Bar?
The kite bar serves as the steering wheel when you are engaged in kitesurfing. It facilitates the transfer of power from the kite to the rider, permitting acceleration, deceleration, jumps, and turns. When discussing a kite control bar, it usually refers to the complete kitesurfing bar and lines setup.
There are two varieties of kitesurf bars: 4-line and 5-line. A 4-line bar is a simpler and more prevalent system where the lines are less prone to tangling. With a 5-line kite, the control system is more sophisticated but offers easier relaunching in lighter winds.
A frequent inquiry is whether kite bars are universal. While universality is not guaranteed, in many cases, it’s possible to mix the kite brand with a different brand of bar. This is more commonly done with a 4-line bar.
Selecting the Appropriate Size Kite Bar
Having a correctly sized bar is crucial for an optimal kiting experience. Ensuring the appropriate width is essential – the larger your kite, the larger your bar should be. A bar that is too small will result in slower response times and more challenging control. The average bar width is about 52 cm.
An additional important measure is the length of the kitesurf lines, typically around 20 - 24 metres. Shorter lines make the kite hang lower, reacting more swiftly and aggressively. Longer lines allow the kite to ascend higher but reduce reaction speed.
