It includes a prayer focusing on God as the Good Shepherd who loves and cares for His people. Confession is made for straying from God and being distracted. 1. Prayer Guide for Dec.14-20, 2008 with Prayer Prompts from Brenda Heinsoo
Adoration: Praise for Who God Is by focusing on one of the names or descriptions of God in the Bible. Matt. 6:9
Jehova-Rohi: “The Lord our Shepherd. “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my
sheep know me…and I lay down my life for the sheep.” John 10:14-15. God loves us and knows
each of us by name. He feeds, cares and protects us, and sent His own Son to teach, lead, and
lay down His precious life so that we might be saved.
Confession: Recognizing our continuing need to repent for sin and seek God’s forgiveness and cleansing. 1 John 1:9
Father, despite your care and leading, we strayed away from you, separating ourselves from our
Good Shepherd with our sin. Forgive me for going my own way, wandering to where I think the
pastures are greenest. Forgive me for drowning out your sweet voice with the distracting noise
from the TV, my ipod, the telephone, and the computer’s hum.
Offer your confession to the Lord…
Thanksgiving: Thank God for all He has done, direct praise to Him and recognize answered prayer! 1 Thes.5:16-18
Lord, Thank you for your patience in leading me. You continue to call me back to you, showing me where
the calm waters and green pastures are, providing for my needs. Thank you for a loving husband who
loves you and his family selflessly, for children who gave their lives to you at an early age, and for a
wonderful church family to help us grow closer to you. Thank you for the chance to work with preschoolers,
who bless my soul each week with their infectious smiles, abounding joy, and unconditional love.
Express your thanks to the Lord…
Supplication: Bringing personal requests and intercession for others before God’s mighty throne. Heb. 4:14-16
Father God, we are a people who want to go are own way. Help us to submit to your loving leading, and
allow you to be our Good Shepherd. Help us to listen to your voice best, and keep us from the distractions
that pull us from your sweet presence. Please use the sheep and shepherd illustration the children get to
experience during Sunday School this week to remind them that You love us and know us by name. I pray
that these precious little ones will follow you all the days of their lives, eventually through the gates of Your
Kingdom!
Enter the throne room of God and bring your requests before Him with a heart of trust and dependency…
