At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Quinn made headlines as not only the first openly transgender athlete to compete, but also the first to win an Olympic medal of any kind when the Canadian women’s national soccer team won their historic gold medal. As a keynote speaker, Quinn shares their journey as a transgender athlete and the power of allyship in helping members of the LGBTQ2+ community achieve success.
Making their international debut in soccer in 2013, Quinn was drafted third overall in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) 2018 College Draft, earning the title of highest drafted Canadian player in NWSL history. They played for NWSL’s OL Reign until 2025, when they joined the Northern Super League, Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league, as a midfielder for the Vancouver Rise FC. As part of the Canadian women’s national soccer team, Quinn helped the team earn a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as a gold medal at the 2020 Games.
In September 2020, Quinn came out publicly as transgender. They are a vocal advocate for the LGBTQ2+ community, especially when it comes to sports. Quinn has been involved with Athlete Ally since their days as a collegiate athlete at Duke University. They worked with Duke alumni and other activists in the LGBTQ+ community to fight against anti-transgender legislation that limits or prohibits the participation of transgender athletes in sports.
Quinn also serves on the Canadian Olympic Committee Athletes Commission and helps lead the Canadian National Team Players Association.
