Japan SSBM Rank 2017
Japan SSBM Rank 2017 is a power ranking in the vein of SSBMRank that lists Japan's 50 best Super Smash Bros. Melee players. It was created by aMSa and Otoko and was posted on the Japanese website dx.smashbr0s.com by Kounotori on February 7th, 2018.
The ranking was calculated based on a point system. A Smasher's ranking at a tournament would be awarded points using the following formula:
((800 - (ranking / number of tournament participants) × 800) + top 4 bonus points) × tournament weight
The top 4 bonus points were given as follows:
- 1st place: 400 points
- 2nd place: 200 points
- 3rd place: 80 points
- 4th place: 30 points
Tournament weight was determined by the number of top players attending the tournament based on the Japan SSBM Rank 2016. Exceptions included Gucci, darkatma and Cactuar who were all treated as top 10 players.
- Rank 1-10: 9 points
- Rank 11-30: 3 points
- Rank 31-50: 1 point
The total number of points determined the multiplier used for the tournament's weight.
The following tournaments were considered for the ranking:
- KVO × TSB 2017 Smavra DX division in Osaka
- CrazyHand 2017 in Osaka
- Battle Gateway series in Tokyo
- MasterHand series in Osaka
- Shulla-bra series in Fukuoka
- NINJA series in Northern Japan
- Chubu Convention series
- Okayama Battle Club series in Okayama
- ReSC, ReSF series in Okinawa
Smashers who participated in at least three tournaments were considered for the ranking.
A Smasher's top 5 point scores would be added together to determine their point total, which was then compared to that of other Smashers. In the case that a player had less than 5 point scores, the formula: total × 5 / number of participations was used. This point system was used to determine the top 50 and to rank places 11 through 50. The top 10 players were re-ranked based on their results in sets against other top 10 players. Players with more winning records were ranked higher. In cases of equal numbers of winning records, whoever led in the head-to-head would be ranked higher; if that was still inconclusive, set win percentages against the top 10 was used to tiebreak.
