Java program to check if a given character is vowel or consonant

In this article we will learn to implement a Java program to check if a given character is vowel or consonant. Following Java program reads a character from the user and prints out whether it is a vowel or not:

import java.util.Scanner;

public class Driver
{	
	public static void main(String[] args)
	{
		Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
		System.out.println("Enter a character: ");
		char ch = input.next().charAt(0);
		if(ch == 'a' || ch == 'e' || ch == 'i' || ch == 'o' || ch == 'u')
			System.out.println("Entered character is a vowel");
		else
			System.out.println("Entered character is not a vowel");
		input.close();
	}
}

Input and output for the above program are as follows:

Enter a character: 
e
Entered character is a vowel

Enter a character: 
b
Entered character is not a vowel
