Though Johnson was 2-8 overall shooting, she made 10 of 12 free throws and grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Shock get to a much needed victory. In addition, Skylar Diggins scored 11 points, dished 6 assists, and only had 2 turnovers, which is a sign that the game is coming to her. The leading scorer for the Shock was Roneeka Hodgers, who scored 19 points, and made four three pointers.
For the Seattle Storm, it seems like a "message sent, message received" response happened in regards to the team's three core younger players: Shekinna Stricklen, Alysha Clark, and Tianna Hawkins, especially Hawkins. All three scored in double figures with Hawkins leading the team with 17 points (7-9 shooting) and four rebounds, three on the offensive end. I know this all came in garbage time with the outcome of the game all but decided, but I'm glad to see her give a sufficient performance as to why she could be one of the best posts in this rookie class when it's all said and done.
As for the takeaways the teams can get from this game, it's still early to call this season a playoff year for the Tulsa Shock given their bad start, but we are now starting to see the team finally show glimpses why many people, including me, believe that this is a playoff team for the 2013 season. The takeaway for the Seattle Storm is that while this was a disappointing loss given the scoring disparity, but this also was a game where we saw Stricklen, Clark, and Hawkins all give good performances on the same night, and that's something that I at least would like to see continue for the rest of this season.
