About Brigham Young
Brigham Young was an American religious leader best remembered as the second President of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church), a position he held from 1847 until his death in 1877. He is also known for being the founder of Salt Lake City as well as the first Governor of Utah.
Personal Life
He was the son of Abigail and John Young. He reportedly married as many as 55 wives and fathered 56 children with 16 of his wives.
Trivia
At the time of his death, he was the longest serving President of the Mormon Church, having held the position for 29 years.
He was responsible for instituting the controversial policy that prevented Black people from becoming priests in the Mormon Church or participating in certain Mormon temple rituals. According to him, Blacks were "the seed of Cain".
