About Cerys Matthews
In 1992, Welsh singer Cerys Matthews and Mark Roberts formed the Catatonia band. She was the lead vocalist and songwriter of the collective. The group is best known for its 1996 hit song "You've Got a Lot to Answer For" which she co-wrote. Later that year, she helped the group to release their first album which was under the name “Way Beyond Blue”. She has been described as one of the catalysts of the "Cool Cymru" cultural movement in the 1990s.

As one of the prominent names in Wale’s entertainment industry, Matthews has also worked for the BBC, especially with Radio 2, and Radio 6 Music. She has further gained admirers for her appearance on the television show titled “The One Show”. The singer is also one of the founders of the 'The Good Life Experience' festival.

She was raised together with three other siblings. She has been married to Steve Abbott since 2012. Prior to that, she was married to Seth Riddle.

She studied at St Michael's School, Llanelli.
Achievements
Matthews became a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2014. A year before that, she received a gold medal at the Sony Radio Academy Awards.
