About Elijah Burke

Generally known under the ring names “Da Pope” and “The Pope D'Angelo Dinero”, Elijah Samuel Burke is a popular American professional wrestler and color commentator who has won a number of titles, including the OVW Television Champion title and the OVW Heavyweight Championship.

Career as a Law Enforcement Officer and a Boxer

Working in law enforcement, Burke worked as an officer under the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in Florida. He first started working in corrections and was later moved to working on the street, enforcing peace and stopping criminals.

Burke would later in life venture into boxing as an amateur while also competing in a Club Plush in Jacksonville’s Club 5. During this competition, he was able to amass a total of 98 wins out of 99 fights in a period of 3 years.

Working as a Professional Wrestler

Beginning his journey in wrestling, he joined the development territory after signing to WWE. At Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), he was awarded the Heavyweight Champion by defeating Chad Toland in 2004.

Although he lost his championship to Matt Morgan, Burke was given a spot as part of the Spirit Squad by the WWE creative team, however, he turned the offer down and that decision led him to stay on with OVW for a long while. He was later signed on to SmackDown together with Sylvester Terkay.

Burke has had extensive career growth, from working with TNA, Independent Circuit, and some important appearances all over the world.

In 2019, he joined the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) under the stage name, “Da Pope”.
