About Heinrich Hertz
Heinrich Hertz made lots of contributions to the development of physics. He’s best known for his effort to show that electromagnetic waves truly exist. The German began an extensive experiment on electromagnetic waves in 1886 as one of his academic papers while studying under renowned scientist Hermann von Helmholtz. The experiment was to confirm the “equations of electromagnetism” which was suggested by Scottish scientist James Clerk Maxwell.
He was also credited for formulating a number of studies including the Hertzian cone, Hertz-Knudsen equation, and the Hertz vector.
Family
His dad, Gustav Ferdinand Hertz, worked as a senator and lawyer in Germany. He also spent his early years with his mother Anna Elisabeth Pfefferkorn. He became the husband of Elisabeth Doll in 1886, with whom he had two kids named Johanna and Mathilde. The latter was also a renowned scientist.
Education
He had his early education at Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums, and later studied at the University of Munich. He did his PhD program at the University of Berlin.
Honors
Hertz was recognized with many awards including the Matteucci Medal, and Rumford Medal.
Facts
He was later made a professor and worked in institutions like the University of Karlsruhe.
"Hertz", the unit for measuring frequency, was named after him.
