About Joe Louis
Joe Louis, also known as the "Brown Bomber", was an iconic American professional boxer who ranks high on the list of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. He first won the world heavyweight championship title in 1937 and went on to hold the title from that time until 1949, thereby setting a boxing record. His boxing career was so successful that he eventually became a national hero. He was posthumously honored with a Congressional Gold Medal in 1982.
Family Life
Throughout his life, he was married four times. His fourth and final marriage was to Martha Jefferson in 1959. The marriage produced four children and lasted until his death in 1981. He had two other children from his first marriage to Marva Trotter.
Trivia
In 1969, he collapsed suddenly on a street in New York City and was hospitalized. He later revealed that the cause of the collapse was because he had used cocaine.
Despite making a lot of fortune during his boxing career, he died a poor man. He was 6 ft 2 inches tall.
