Career
Before going pro, De La Hoya had a successful amateur boxing career. He had 234 wins and only six losses. He debuted as a professional in the super-featherweight division, and while at this weight, he defeated Jimmy Bredahl to earn the WBO Super Featherweight title. He later had similar success in the lightweight, light-welterweight, welterweight, and light-middleweight divisions. Unfortunately, while challenging middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins, De La Hoya was knocked out for the first time in his career, losing the match. After a few other famous fights, De La Hoya retired.
