Powell lived in Salford, Lancashire, during childhood with his parents. As a teen, he starred in BBC Radio's "Adventures of Samuel Poppleton."
He attended the Manchester Grammar School for his high school education. He aspired to be a lawyer, so he enrolled in the University of Manchester for an external law degree.
Career
Powell's interest in acting grew when he was an undergraduate. His debut movie role came in 1967 when he played the role of a train driver's assistant in the locomotive theft movie "Robbery." He also had a small part in its original film "The Italian Job" in 1969. He then continued to star in several movies and became a regular TV personality in the 1970s.
In 1977, Powell played his most famous role as Jesus Christ in the movie "Jesus of Nazareth." His performance as the character is frequently referred to as one of the best depictions of Christ in a film. TVTimes honored Powell with the “Best Actor Award” for this role.
