Waylon was supposed to be on the plane that crashed killing his friend Buddy Holly as well as several other big musicians. He gave up his seat to someone who wasn’t feeling good. For the rest of his life, Waylon was haunted by what came be known as, “the day the music died”.
Waylon’s biggest hit was the theme song for the hit television show “The Dukes of Hazzard”. “The Good Ol’ Boys” peaked at #21 on The Billboard Hot 100.

Waylon was married 4 times, including being married to Jessi Colter between 1969 and 2002 - he had 6 children. To be a role model for his children and grandchildren Waylon finally earned his GED as the ripe old age of 52.
