Cioks DC7 users - any issues?

What's Hot
I suppose I’m circling round the idea of replacing my DC5 which failed about a year out of warranty and probably isn’t economically repairable if you factor in return courier vs original price of the unit.

I’d get a DC7 this time - anyone had one for a goodly while and able to comment on longevity?

I’ve had mine for nearly 5 years and at the risk of tempting fate, I’ve not had any issues whatsoever.

  • The only problem is side loading power cable so I can’t quickly connect it through the holes at the back of my Pedaltrain.

…which actually leads to slowing down my board setup, drastically reducing the number of times I connect my board backwards & can’t work out why there’s no sound.

I thought about getting one of these, extend it to the side of the Pedaltrain.

However, I think it is too thick compare to the height of the feet.

  • I wish there was a quick way of keeping the mains plugged in (both ends) and be able to switch off power to the unit. (Selfishly posting this here so that someone gives me the answer!)

You will need to add a IEC cable with a switch

Eonvic PDU UPS Power Cord Cable, IEC 320 C14 to C13 with On/Off Switch 30cm https://amzn.eu/d/2EpFK9L

Or add separate switch unit….I have such a thing on my Salvage Custom board.

With a Nano board, you could build a switch box and use it as a riser for one of your other pedals, so that it doesn’t take up any real estate on your board. Much simpler to unplug though, certainly on my setup.

Do you not have switches on your plug sockets?  ;)

You’ve met me, on first impressions alone, you’ll know I’m an incredibly lazy person, mate!

Had one on a board for 5 years, never had an issue (probably will now i've said that)

Shameless plug - I have one for sale the classifieds :)
This week's procrastination forum might be moved to sometime next week.

Get yourself a WiFi plug. Super handy.

  • I used a DC-5 for years at all sorts of grimy sweaty gigs with no issue. It was built like a tank. That’s some bad luck. However if one were to last 5 years the way I’d mentally look at it is to divide the price by those years and think that’s what I spent to get clean power per year. Won’t feel as bad then!

I have a short IEC to cloverleaf extension; it fits through the rear gap in the Pedaltrain Classic, etc.
The advantages are: you're not exercising the power supply's mains socket and you're not scrabbling about under the pedalboard to get at it.

  • Very good and better than Strymon which I have a few of too. A few pedals it doesn't like though - main one I found recently is the Shallow Water - super noisy using DC7 and not with anything else.

  • Thanks folks for all the input - or indeed output!

Sounds like this is the definite front runner. There’s something rather special on the near horizon first though.
