Chi Nguyen: the 10 funniest things I have ever seen (on the internet)

This article is more than 1 year old

The Melbourne actor and writer shares her fondness for life-lesson videos, K-drama death scenes and Ali Wong

The internet is powerful. It can connect people all around the world, share news and knowledge in milliseconds and extend your toilet break to 30 minutes longer than needed.

After countless hours of scrolling while forgetting to wipe, I’ve accumulated a gallery of funny internet things for comfort viewing in case of a time-killing emergency: commuting on train, queueing for boarding, waiting for your friend at a theatre foyer who is running late but has your ticket, etc. So here are the top 10 from my list should you wish to add them to your personal emergency collection.

1. Natalie Tran (communitychannel)

I watched Natalie Tran’s videos on YouTube religiously throughout my adolescence because it was so inspiring to see a Vietnamese female comedian being so unapologetically original and creative. When I moved to Australia from Vietnam, I also adopted the Australian accent quickly thanks to watching her videos. Do yourself a favour and binge everything she’s ever posted. You can thank me later.

2. Sabrina Wu

I have watched this clip 1,839,404 times and counting. The delivery. The charisma. Their presentation of cultural challenges and self-discovery through comedy is just pure genius. I’m a fan for life!

3. Ali Wong

OK but if I ever get to work with Ali Wong on a comedy show or something, that’d be the highlight of my life and nothing would ever top it. Her standups are one of a kind. You will laugh until your belly hurts and quote her with your friends for the rest of your days. I would also highly recommend reading her book Dear Girls.

4. Steph Stone’s duet with piano

But like, why is this the soundtrack of my life? Why is this my audition for every musical theatre show from now on? Why is this not released on Spotify already – I need this duet on repeat.

The accuracy! As a hardcore K-drama fan I can attest to the truth of this observation. And can we just appreciate the outfits this creator has sourced to make this video as well. We love a dedicated queen.

It’s giving … coping mechanism at the dentist, with a hint of being lonely for a bit too long. Kudos to the patient for communicating their needs. But that dentist deserves a raise after that appointment for sure.
