Growing up without cable was hard. You couldn't name half the Rugrats, you never got to join in to the popular girls' conversations about Lizzie McGuire and you didn't know any of the words to that F-U-N song from Spongebob. Basically, you were forever doomed to a mid-to-low rung on the playground social ladder.
Chin up. Us PBS kids might not have had as many options, but still managed to make plenty of amazing memories. If the following apply to you, you're definitely a PBS Kid. Be proud!
1. You still think about Arthur regularly.
It might not have been your favorite show on the channel, but I bet it's the one you remember the best. While other shows would sometimes try too hard to be hip or relevent, Arthur just understood kids. Remember when Arthur was the last kid in the class to lose a tooth? Any late bloomer could relate.
Also, you totally still sing that A-A-R-D-V-A-R-K song in your head whenever you need to spell the word.
2. You secretly watched Barney well into your elementary school years.
Well, what else were you going to do? It was the only kids show on TV sometimes. Of course, you still made fun of it with your friends at school.
3. You (usually) drew the line at Teletubbies, though.
At least Barney had characters who spoke English. Teletubbies was just a little too obviously for babies to justify. You still wound up watching it sometimes, but it was very definitely always an accident.
4. You were fluent in Ubbi Dubbi.
And you knew exactly what Fannee Doolee did and didn't like. You definitely tried to build a Rube Goldberg machine at some point, but probably didn't get very far.
And, speaking of Zoom...
5. You arbitrarily picked a favorite Zoomer, and always cheered when they were on.
Mine was Caroline. Which was great because they kept bringing her back for season after season!
6. You wished, you wished, with all your heart, to fly with dragons in a world apart.
You may never have made it to Dragon Land, but at least you learned some Spanish while trying. Also, you weren't sure how to feel about the addition of Enrique.
7. You could never decide whether Jetta and Mac were good guys or bad guys on Clifford.
They were so mean to Emily Elizabeth and Clifford, but they were all still supposed to be friends? You see now that they were flawed characters, but at the time, it didn't make much sense.
8. You knew that all the stuff in the Kratt brothers' closet was going to fall out, but you remained hopeful.
Apparently there was one episode where the closet was actually clean. I never saw it.
9. You never asked when you would need to know math.
You knew: it would be when Motherboard needed you to retrieve the encryptor chip. Also, you hated the color puce because it was the color of The Hacker.
10. You still have nightmares about that one time you watched Boobah.
Maybe you were home sick from school. Or maybe it was summer vacation. Or maybe you were young enough not to be in school during the show's time slot. Whatever the situation, you came away with one question: who thought it was a good idea to take Teletubbies and make it weirder?
11. You totally forgot about the Bookworm Bunch until right this second.
Remember Seven Little Monsters? George Shrinks? Marvin the Tap Dancing Horse? It's really a shame that no one talks about them anymore; they were quality.
