Here's To Late-Night Talks In Prez Court, PCB Pizza, And Being Eternally Confused

What You Will And Won't Miss About Freshman Year At UTK
University of Tennessee

Ah, freshman year. There really is nothing like it. We are all living basically the same lives: we live in the same dorms, eat at the same dining hall, and take almost all the same classes. There is never going to be a time in our lives like this again, and as it comes to an end, there are definitely things we will and things we won't miss about our first year at the University of Tennessee!

You probably will miss Prez Court.

There's nothing quite like being able to meet up with friends in about two minutes notice, or staying up late listening to the birds chirping (still confused as to why the birds are the loudest in the middle of the night).

But, you probably won't miss the tiny old dorm rooms.

Come on, they're basically prison cells with windows.

You probably will miss all the workers at PCB.

Seeing Reggie at the omelette station and chatting with Chad the burger guy every Tuesday might have been one of your favorite traditions. You knew that Mrs Janice would greet you with a smile and leave you with a "there ya go, darlin" every afternoon, and there's a sort of comfort that comes with seeing the same people every day.

But, you probably won't miss eating there every day.

You can only eat so much pizza and salad without feeling horrible about yourself. So you resorted to spending those pesky dining dollars until you blew through all three hundred of them like they were nothing.

You probably will miss your first football game as a student.

There's nothing like your first time in the student section, being surrounded by all your best friends in all their best orange and cheering on the best team in the SEC (well, maybe not that last one).

But, you won't miss being in the nosebleeds because you don't have T credits yet.

Being a freshman means getting the short end of the stick, and in Neyland Stadium, the short end of the stick is sitting wayyyyy up. Maybe not THIS far up, but it feels like it.

You probably will miss being able to use the freshman excuse for everything.

Gaining fifteen pounds? Freshman. Partying too much? Freshman. Low GPA? Freshman. It resolves everything.

But, you probably won't miss being looked down upon because you're a freshman.

You felt small around all the seniors who already had jobs set up after graduation and knew what they were doing with their lives.

You probably will miss your easy classes.

All you had to do was find someone to give your clicker to and that was half the battle.

But, you probably won't miss the smell of HSS.

It's an odd mixture of a petting zoo and cleaning chemicals. I STILL have no idea what the source is.

You probably will miss living so close to TRECS.

You could almost literally roll out of bed and go work out. There was no excuse.

But, you won't miss living so close to construction.

Trying to sleep past 7 am? Trying to take a midday nap around 3? Good luck with blaring machines all around you.

You probably will miss the newness of it all.

At the beginning of freshman year, everything is new and you are bright with opportunity.

But, you probably won't miss when you had no idea what was going on.

You had no clue where the hill was, which clubs to join, or where to go on weekends.

You probably will miss meeting more new people than you ever have before in your life.

When you're in college, you are around more people your age than you ever will be in your life again. If that doesn't scare you, I don't know what will.

But you probably won't miss the time before you met all your best friends.

Because how could you ever live without them?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
