RUSH hour traffic in East Kilbride has been plunged into chaos after a "pile-up" on the expressway this morning.

Police raced to the scene on the A725 eastbound around 7.55am.

Debris from the crash is strewn across the lanes with cars queuing back from the crash site near Blantyre.

The traffic is backed up around two miles to the Whirlies Roundabout.

Police confirmed officers were still on the scene of the two-car crash.

One social media user, however, described the expressway smash as a "pile-up".

There are not thought to be any casualties from the crash.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: "East Kilbride Expressway eastbound approaching Blantyre.

"Road traffic collision causing heavy traffic back to the Whirlies Roundabout.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 7.55am, we were called to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A725 eastbound.

"There is debris on the lanes which is causing delays.

"There are no injuries from the incident.

"Officers remain on the scene."
