When was the last season prior to 2024 that the Saints won fewer than 7 games and were out of the playoff picture with two games left? Every year and every move have not ended up well, but on balance this franchise has had a 20 year run like few others. I graduated LSU in 1974 and moved to Pensacola for a job. I could get the football games on WWL, but they did not carry LSU basketball games. I lived in the Warrington community of Pensacola a few miles outside of the Navy Base. Due to some weird atmospheric quirk I was able to receive the night time basketball broadcasts on WJBO while driving along about a two mile stretch of nearby Old Corry Road. So I drove up and down the road several times listening to Dick Walcott's broadcast of the Tigers against the ten team SEC league. The Doctor Kenny Higgs was the freshman star. I returned to BR in 1976 which coincided with the arrival of Rudy, Cookie Man, Jordy, Walter Davis followed by The Astronaut and EEEEEE Martin as the Fantastic Climb to the Top was under way under Dale Brown.
Heady times, but being able to get those broadcasts in Pensacola kept me connected to the program when they were not yet a national powerhouse.
