Mark Zuckerberg is also the chairman, chief executive officer and controlling shareholder of the parent company of Facebook that is Meta Platforms. He attended Harvard University briefly where he launched Facebook in 2004 February with his roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. At the age of 23, he became the youngest self-made billionaire in history in 2008. Since then, he has organized several donations using his money, including the founding of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. In the initial stage he faced many problems. In January 2004 he started writing code for a new website and on 4 February 2004 he launched "Thefacebook" which was originally located on thefacebook.com with the partnership of his roommates. He got the inspiration from Phillips Exeter Academy, the prep school from which Zuckerberg graduated in 2002 as it published its own student directory, "The Photo Address Book", which students referred to as "The Facebook". It allowed the students to list attributes such as their class years, their friends, and their telephone numbers. He made it just for the Harvard students but then faced many obstacles from his seniors but somehow managed to get out of it.

His Facebook was just an another Harvard thing until he decided to spread it in other schools such as Columbia University, New York University, Stanford University, Dartmouth College, Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania, Brown University, and Yale University. Later he dropped out of Harvard in his sophomore year in order to complete the project. Then after relocating to Palo Alto, California, Zuckerberg, Moskovitz, and the other co-founders leased a modest home that doubled as an office. After meeting Peter Thiel during the summer, Zuckerberg received funding for his business. In mid-2004, they acquired their first office and from here his company started getting the boost and they started getting investors to invest in their company.

Zuckerberg announced intentions in January 2019 to incorporate an end-to-end encrypted system for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the three main social media platforms. Facebook combined the Messenger and Instagram chat platforms for iOS and Android mobile users on August 14, 2020. Users of Facebook and Instagram were urged to communicate with one other through the upgrade.

Personal Life

Mark Zuckerberg met the fellow Harvard student Priscilla Chan at a frat party and they started dating in 2003. On May 19, 2012 they got married and the event also celebrated Chan's graduation from her medical school as she did her medical from The University of California. Zuckerberg revealed on July 31, 2015, that they were expecting a baby girl and that Chan had previously experienced three miscarriages. Then the couple had their first daughter Maxima Chan Zuckerberg on 1 December 2015, then they had their second daughter August who was born in August 2017 and then they welcomed their third daughter Aurelia on March 24, 2023
