Any fundamental distinct element or physical object in an electronic system that interacts with electrons or the fields around them is referred to as an electronic component. Inductors: Inductors are electromagnetic induction devices, coiled with insulated wires and rank among the most used electronic parts. Transformer: Using the electromagnetic induction concept, a transformer proves to be a component created by wrapping two as well as more sets of coil that winds on the same coil bobbin (or iron core). To achieve the transmission and distribution of electrical energy, the transformer's voltage ratio or current ratio may be altered by adjusting the number of turns between its primary and secondary windings.
Semiconductor: Semiconductor diodes and semiconductor triodes are two types of semiconductor devices. A diode is the simplest two terminal semiconductor that allows unidirectional operation of the circuit. They are most commonly used for simple rectifier circuits. There are far too many different varieties of semiconductors, which may be broadly categorised as PNP type or NPN type. They usually employ materials like silicon, germanium or other compound materials. Although the thyristor (SCR) possesses unidirectional conductivity, it differs greatly from the silicon rectifier element in all other respects. The thyristor's rectifier voltage may be adjusted, and it can regulate a significant amount of rectifier power with a negligibly small milliampere current. The thyristor also benefits from quick frequency response times, excellent rectification efficiencies, and minimal component sizes. Integrated circuits are one of the fastest growing fields of the electronics industry, where large scale integration of electronic components are achieved to miniaturize electronic products.
Electronic components form the backbone of any electronic product. An electronic product will be an assembly of required components, soldered onto a Printed circuit board. The purpose of an electronic component will decide the components to be used. Let us take a simple example of a Rectifier. A rectifier converts alternating signals /voltage into DC signals. Therefore, the function of the rectifier is defined. This means that the AC signal of the negative half cycle must either be suppressed or inverted to make it into a DC signal. Therefore, directionality is needed. This can be achieved by using simple diodes in a bridge assembly formation, to achieve the required output. So, the components needed would be, a transformer, four diodes, a capacitor to filter ripples. However, one can also get the entire assembly available as a single integrated chip. This can be simply mounted on the board and soldered. Electronic chips are an integration of lots of electronic components onto the same circuit board. Let’s take another example of an electronic device, such as our mobile. Our mobiles are complicated electronic circuits and it takes a trained person to appreciate the complexity of such devices. It integrates display devices, mother boards, cooling circuits, oscillators, cameras and a plethora of other integrated chips onto the same board.
