I'm really not apologetic with this hard stance, either. I'm very firm on this, too. My art has already been used, twice now by people who did not ask my permission, so they could "enhance it" with Gen AI. I really see nothing good coming from generative AI except poor excuses for laziness and glorified search engines that don't work.

This is an important time to make the distinction between generative and analytical AI. Analytical AI is what AI is supposed to be for. It’s all the boring stuff like analyzing data for patterns. For example, you probably heard about that AI that was designed to tell apart bear claws from croissants for a bakery that is now being used to detect cancer cells with greater accuracy than human doctors. That’s an analytical AI, while everything mentioned in the post above is generative AI. (Which sucks!)

Went to the Mississippi art museum yesterday! I got to see some amazing quilts in the “Of Salt and Spirit: Black Quilters in the American South” these are some of my favorite quilts in the exhibit.

I got the first pieced border attached to the scrappy star quilt last night. There are soooo many seams in behind those little scrappy squares. I should have gone for a more scant 1/4inch seam. Next up I will add another white border then the last pieced border. I am thinking about binding too. I will have to look in my binding stash and see what I have that would suite. I am also thinking how to quilt it as there are just soooo many seams on the back. Maybe straight line. Hmm I will think about that some more while I am out running this morning.

Sweet Dreams Kirby Quilt - Desert Bus 2023

I wanted to mix it up from my usual FPP (foundational paper piecing) shenanigans, so I went off into the land of pixel quilting. But, I still had to have a little madness in it, so instead of small and detailed I went big and pink!!

This quilt is 100 x 105 inches, so slightly over a king sizeish and was made from about 10 200 1 inch squares. It would've been a nice even 10 000, but I accidently miscounted my columns in google sheets and added 2 extra ones to the far right side. Oops. But yeah, I filled cells in google sheets to make the design, often while waiting for simulations at work (don't tell my bosses) and then I matched the colours to my trusty kona colour card and we ended up here! It has something like 13 different shades of pink, which is great, because I love pink and I love Kirby.

I had to get this bad boy long armed too, as there was no way I was going to be able to get this through my domestic at home. It was the right choice the pale pink thread and quilting motifs are just so perfect.

Parting with this quilt was SO hard, I really loved it, but I hope this quilt is well loved in their new home too.

I've been going through a massive blue period. Stipping things back to pencil, less graphic, more intimate and I'm loving how much more I'm enjoying it. I've released this current series as prints - something which I've not done in around 3 years. I've also taken my work to Inprnt as I really did not like the direction society6 was heading.

So if you'd like to grab a print, you can find them all available here : https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/nvm/

There's currently 10% off prints and there are fair few lovely prints available there that I've not uploaded here.

I wanted to draw again in the Hades style but maybe develop and render it a bit more. I had already started sketching out this medusa piece, so I figured she’d make a good test subject, and I’m so glad I did!!!! I’m super happy with how she came out! This style is always so fun to work with.

Now I do realize that there is already a medusa character in the game and I have no idea how after the hundred odd hours I have in this game I had completely forgotten about Dusa until I had already completed the sketch and color test… so consider this a medusa-remains-intact-after-death AU.

I decided to use the Hydra as style reference for the snakes rather than the snakes on Dusa because I wanted them to feel s bit more like characters in their own right, and the snakes that Dusa have weren’t exactly giving me what I was looking for, so Hydra is was! I did end up looking a lot at Dusa’s snakes for color placement and linework style, so she was still a great help.

Here are the original sketch and color test, along with an alternate version. Originally, I had thought she would have stone eyes, because I thought it would be interesting with her whole turning people to stone thing, but then I was testing out colors and I put some eyes on her and I really liked them. I feel like the stone eyes give her a really, almost prophetic look, very ethereal and hazy, whereas the yellow eyes really humanize her (although she’s not human, but you catch my drift). I really was torn between giving her colored eyes or stone eyes, so I figured I’d just keep both!
