Review on Trick moon (cause you gotta watch it)

Okay I know its just a pilot…but I couldn’t help myself. This is just what I do when I see a good cartoon you know anyway. This is spoiler free and based on opinion.

Plot

The plot is just about this prince that got stuck in a moon stone and his sister and brother have to defend the moonstone (they are bad at their job) And there are villains that want that moonstone.

- It isn’t the most original plot but I do find it hilarious that this competent older brother has to rely on his two younger siblings who are just goofing about, I find that pretty interesting. 6.5/10

Characters

Trickshot is the the smart but egotistical character. He goes by his ego (according to creators twitter.)  He does what he wants to do and doesn’t like following orders. He is quite impulsive.  (similar to Gumball in a way and sonic)

Pocket is his sister, she goes by her instincts (according to creators twitter.) She is friendly and bubbly, being maybe even more impulsive than Trickshot. She is very silly and random but fun too. (also she likes video games…sooo um.. thats awesome)

Prince is their older brother who goes by his superego (according to creators twitter.) He is orderly but caring, he is the mature one…despite you know getting trapped in a moon stone

Mage is this funny yet evil kinda emo dude.  (Theres not much else to say about him)

- The characters are AMAZING. okay so first time I watched, I liked only Prince, because well he was the only one not being that silly. But second time around, I started to like Pocket and then eventually found myself liking Trickshot too. They are lovable, sweet, and so childish, but its not in an annoying way. It wasn’t over the top, all the characters seemed to have great personalities and great designs. 8/10

Humour and dialogue (Humour refers to the comedy style. Dialogue referring to the script)

- I’ll be honest, I didn’t like some dialogue. There are some uses of the word “rekt” and “roast” the new generation kinda memes….And I always get a little annoyed when cartoons say those words (idk why) but aside from those tiimes they said something like that, I found the humour, pretty funny. The humour is sort of wacky and out of nowhere and it jumps around similar to Unikitty or maybe even Mao Mao. I do think some scenes were rushed though and had forced dialogue but it got solved pretty quickly. Humour is 7.5/10 and dialogue is 6/10

Overall

- At first I felt conflicted and unsure about it. I saw it as a kids show like for 9 year olds based on how it looked but then I rewatched it and saw the charm and unique quality of it. The art is really cute, the story is great too. And I want to see more of it. When you watch it, you should know what I mean, theres something about the show that seems very intriguing but I’m not sure what it is.

If you are looking for a new cartoon to watch then definitely watch the pilot of Trick moon, get it advertised everywhere. I know it already is quite popular, but I really wanna make it even more. The creator of the show is also very nice too so thats cool.

(This show may not be for those that dislike fast happy upbeat shows. But it definitely has plot so its not just one of those filler cartoons. There is also an old school anime feel to it and its like a video game)

I give it all 7/10 - Because it isn’t the best cartoon ever. And Id say it is above average but not jaw breakingly amazing. But after all this is only a pilot so its not really fair for me to judge it….so this 7/10  rating is not set in stone.

Drawing guides for Trickshot I made for my short!

Trickshot, as the middle sibling, lands in-between cartoony Pocket and his more grounded big brother, the Prince. You can see this most clearly in his hands. They’re usually at least partially articulated, except at a distance.

The bottom image shows a comparison between the storyboard and the final layout drawings I sent as reference. Trickshot’s model changed a bit between storyboard and final, so I wanted to make sure eMation had a clear idea of what level of fidelity to the board was important to me.

Pocket’s character animation guidelines! I still love these special poses I drew for Pocket. She’s very fun to draw.
