Country Overview

Kazakhstan has enjoyed steady economic growth since independence in 1991 but continues to face development challenges. The United States partners with Kazakhstan to support its emergence as a regional leader able to contribute to peace and prosperity in Central Asia and beyond.

To enhance security and prosperity, USAID partners with Kazakhstan’s government, private sector and people on combating infectious diseases, fostering governance institutions that respond to citizens’ needs, expanding competitive trade, and promoting regional cooperation on shared energy and water resources.

In Kazakhstan, USAID advances the U.S. Government’s Central Asia Strategy, which supports and strengthens the sovereignty and independence of Central Asian countries, individually and as a group; encourages regional connectivity between Central Asia and Afghanistan; promotes rule of law and respect for human rights; and improves the climate for U.S. investment— to foster greater regional stability and prosperity.
