Menopause is the stage of life in which menstrual cycles have stopped permanently. On average, it happens around age 52, but it's typical for it to occur between 40 and 58. Perimenopause is the transition stage that can last five to 10 years and is characterized by symptoms like irregular periods, hot flashes, and mood changes.
