It's been over a decade since 34 pregnancy tests revealed that Gavin and Stacey were finally expecting a child. Fans will remember that in the final series the couple were told they were unlikely to have a baby because Gavin had a low sperm count.

However, in the final episode, while everyone was preparing for Nessa and Dave Coaches' wedding, Stacey broke the good news to Gavin who proudly declared: "My balls work! " And a lot can happen in 10 years as the Christmas special revealed that the couple are now parents to a son and two daughters.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the festive special in 2019, Ruth Jones explained the meaning behind the names Harri, Caitlin and Megan. She said: "It was a little nod to Pam’s love of the royal family, we wanted it to be transferred through Gavin into their name choices." For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter

As well as the royal family, they also drew inspiration from notorious serial killers for character names - Fred and Rose West, Peter Sutcliffe, and Harold Shipman, as Gavin's family's surname is Shipman, and Stacey's is West. The character of Pete Sutcliffe was first introduced in the 2008 Christmas special.

In the episode when Gavin and Stacey are planning their wedding, Doris comes out with the hilarious one-liner: "She lives for the day she can change her name from West, what with all the connotations and what have you, and what does she become? A Shipman."

In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, Jones revealed: "I suppose we were hoping that people wouldn't realise and then when it does come to light, it's even more delicious. I'm sorry, that's a terrible word to use in conjunction with two murderers."
