Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport recently completed a $1.3 million, one-year renovation of its planetarium — completely gutting the theater of its equipment, seats and flooring and installing a new state-of-the-art digital star projector, dome, 6.1 Surround Sound, LED lighting system, new sloped floor, and theater-style seats. Five Zeiss digital projectors surrounding an optical star projector, all located in the middle of the planetarium, were purchased at a cost of $780,000. The debut 30-minute program is called “Connections” to highlight the new Zeiss equipment and show off what the park does — nature and astronomy.
