I have a confession to make: I am a last minute baker. Even though I know better, I always put off my baking tasks until the very last minute. This leaves my kitchen looking like a tornado ripped through it. If you enter my home on a baking day, you’ll find cake pans and cooling racks littering the table, chocolate chips and dried fruit all over the floor, and me in a flour-covered apron with a wild, frizzy bun in my hair.
My husband hates baking days. Well, more specifically, he hates the incredible mess that comes with baking days. But, he can’t complain too much because he loves eating the results of my mess. So, he just tries to steer clear of my path until the dust has settled – literally.
Anyways, as much as I love baking from scratch, I’ve also accepted that sometimes, there’s just not enough time in the day. And, like my Mom loves to say, “It’s always the thought that counts.” With this in mind, I came up with some incredibly easy last minute Scary Halloween Desserts for all of you!
All of these “recipes” for our scary Halloween desserts are perfect for bringing to parties! Plus, they’re so easy to make that you can have your kids do it while you blow dry your hair. Just don’t put on their “party clothes” until after they’ve worked their magic. Because if your kids are anything like mine, they’ll end up using their shirts as napkins and wiping food all over themselves. Then, you’ll have to freak out and find something else for them to wear, which we all know is never an easy task.
4 Scary Halloween Desserts You Can Make At The Last Minute
Creepy Cake Donuts
To Make: Pick up some plain or glazed donuts at your favorite grocery store. While you’re there, grab some cans of chocolate frosting and Halloween-themed M&Ms. Come home. Frost the donuts. Stick on M&Ms. Arrange these scary Halloween desserts on a creepy platter. And, BOOM! You’re done!
Bloody Eyeball Cheesecake
To Make: Pick up a cheesecake at your favorite grocery store or bakery. Grab some all natural cherry pie filling and pick up some candy eyeballs down the cake aisle. Head home and dig out a white plate from your cupboard. Place the cheesecake on it and artfully slather on the cherry pie filling. Decorate with eyeballs and go to the party.
Spiderweb Brownies
To Make: At the grocery store, pick up a few boxes of the already frosted chocolate brownies in the bakery section. Then head over to the cake aisle and grab some squeezable icing. (I wanted to use white, but I had the kids with me and…well, you know how that goes. They insisted on yellow and orange. Sigh. So, take it form me, leave the kids at home and get whatever color you want!)
While you’re there, don’t forget to grab some sort of cool black platter or tray for this dessert. Slap the brownies on your tray and squeeze cobwebs onto the brownies. I’d say use a light hand, but as you can see in the pictures, my kids went to town on a few of them. So squeeze however hard you want to and then you’re done! If you want to be extra fancy, shove a spider skeleton on the tray too.
Here’s Johnny! Cupcakes
To Make: Run through the grocery store like Jacky Boy or the creepy sisters on trikes are following you down the aisles. Grab some chocolate-chocolate chip muffins and red velvet ones too. Now pick up some white frosting and red gel icing down the cake aisle. Toss them in your cart.
Look at another shopper and say, “Darling, I’m not gonna hurt you. I’m just gonna bash your brains in.” Okay, wait – no! Definitely, do not say that or you’re going to get arrested and miss your party. Instead, just pretend you said that and keep going.
Now, it’s time for these candy cake toppers. If your grocery store doesn’t have them, don’t freak out. Any store that sells Wilton products will have them or you can just buy them here and have them shipped to your house.
Once you’re home, frost your muffins and dribble red icing all over them. Shove the candy pieces into the center. Arrange any way you see fit!
So there you have it! 4 Scary Halloween Desserts that you can make at the very last minute! Super creepy and semi-homemade, they’re bound to gross out your friends!
