The WHO Global Malaria Programme is soliciting suggestions of pressing unmet public health needs in malaria control and elimination. This will feed into a prioritization process, building on existing work by the Malaria Eradication Scientific Alliance (MESA), the WHO Observatory on Health Research and Development and others to define unmet and partially met public health needs related to malaria.
By exploring unmet public health needs and reviewing preferred product characteristics (PPCs) for new tools and strategies in development it should be possible to identify gaps and stimulate the development of products meeting defined PPCs.
What is an unmet public health need or an inadequately met public health need?
An unmet public health need is a challenge faced by a malaria control programme implementer due to the lack of a product or a clear strategy to address the issue.
