Preventing Suicide: a resource series
Overview
Suicide has been recognized as a major public health problem. The reduction of the suicide rate has been included as the only indicator on mental health in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The indicator is equally included in the WHO General Programme of Work and Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan. The prevention of suicide and suicide attempts has been prioritized in the public health agenda. It requires a multisectoral approach, bringing together different sectors and stakeholders most relevant to each context. The series of resources on preventing suicide are addressed at a diversified and wide range of people and groups, including health professionals, educators, social agencies, governments, legislators, law enforcers, employers, social communicators, media professionals and communities, who are particularly relevant to the prevention of suicide.
