The MGI prefix needs to be part of the Identifier
[edit]The MGI prefix is an intrinsic part of the identifier. Everything at the MGI contains the prefix. Not having MGI prefix being part of the identifier might leads to integration issue. --Andrawaag (talk) 11:00, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- Strong support We keep having this discussion over and over. An identifier is a necessary part of IDs. MGI has been a leader in the biomedical community for decades and is being used community-wide. It is essential that it is present. -- Emitraka (talk) 11:04, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- why is this any different than CHEBI ID? What is the problem with treating it the same, and modeling the local part as being the numeric part, and having a rule for constructing a more unique prefixed identifier, like CHEBI? Cmungall (talk) 06:00, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
MGI is not just genes
[edit]This assumes that MGI identifiers are just for genes. In fact an MGI identifier can be for other entities such as genotypes. The URL prefix "http://www.informatics.jax.org/accession/MGI:" works for all MGI IDs Cmungall (talk) 06:00, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
