Discussion
[edit]- Weak oppose We already have Arch Linux package (P3454) and the ArchWiki usually has redirects from the package name to the article because https://archlinux.org/packages/ links the wiki this way e.g.
- MediaWiki (Q83)Arch Linux package (P3454)mediawiki & https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/mediawiki redirects to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/MediaWiki
- GIMP (Q8038)Arch Linux package (P3454)gimp & https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/gimp redirects to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GIMP
- And for other articles that cover a more general topic we could just use described at URL (P973).

- Redirect is just redirect. It's not linked with the package ID. So libreoffice-still doesn't redirect to LibreOffice. Also please note that there exist many language versions of ArchWiki. Laftp0 (talk) 14:03, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Right but the ArchWiki is a wiki so you can just create that redirect and doing so would be good because that would also improve the "Search Wiki" link on [1].
- Yes I think the ArchWiki should work on properly implementing Special:MyLanguage because then articles could just be linked as Special:MyLanguage/packagename.

- Yes but this is an identifier. Is it easy to find the Wikidata item from ArchWiki title? Laftp0 (talk) 14:18, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Well you can use the Wikidata Hub (Q63379538) to find the Wikidata item by the ArchWiki package name e.g. https://hub.toolforge.org/P3454:nginx-mainline?site=wd.
- And it should be very easy to write a userscript that finds the first linked package in an ArchWiki article and redirects you to the respective Wikidata item. The following should work on most ArchWiki articles about a particular software (if the package is linked via Arch Linux package (P3454)):
window.location = 'https://hub.toolforge.org/P3454:' + document.querySelector('.archwiki-template-pkg').textContent + '?site=wd'

- It's also good to identify this for some cases but I still see the benefits of having this ID, so I keep this open. Thank you. Laftp0 (talk) 05:35, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

- Hay, can we please implement this proposal? Recently we added Gentoo Wiki ID https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/Gentoo_Wiki_ID. Archlinux Wiki have a lot of useful information. Vitaly Zdanevich (talk) 23:54, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with Vitaly Zdanevich, there's no reason to have one but not the other. Anwon (talk) 11:04, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
