Motivation
[edit]BritBox (Q30681965) (en:BritBox) is a major British TV streaming service run as a joint venture by the BBC and ITV, with a huge library of TV shows made by all the major British terrestrial broadcasters. IDs for this are thus useful to Wikidata in the same way as IDs for programs and series on other major streaming services such as Netflix. The Anome (talk) 09:55, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Comment The URL slug seems unnecessary, and the numerical identifier is enough − for example https://www.britbox.co.uk/programme/51229 resolves fine. Can you give an example that uses the `series` prefix? Jean-Fred (talk) 13:35, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
- Looks like https://www.britbox.co.uk/programme/51229 & https://www.britbox.co.uk/series/51229 resolve interchangeably. Jean-Fred (talk) 13:42, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
- Alas, not for me: while the first link loads OK, https://www.britbox.co.uk/series/51229 resolves to a blank page (although Javascript etc still loads and executes). By the way, the site is a single page application, but we can't do anything about that.
I suggest we use the whole URL suffix, slug text and all.@Jean-Frédéric: Here's one that uses 'series': https://www.britbox.co.uk/series/Belgravia_49784 . https://www.britbox.co.uk/series/49784 also works. I note that https://www.britbox.co.uk/programme/Belgravia_49784 generates a blank page when I visit it, as does https://www.britbox.co.uk/programme/49784 , so I've changed the format of values in the examples to include the prefix, but not the slug. -- The Anome (talk) 13:46, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
- It also looks like the American version of BritBox uses the prefixes "season" and "episode". They're not making things easy for anyone looking to reference their content. I'm beginning to wonder if this is worth the effort. -- The Anome (talk) 15:32, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

- It should be probably specified in the property name that this is for the UK version of BritBox. Trivialist (talk) 22:53, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Trivialist Sure, think changing property name to Britbox UK ID would be ok, not sure how urls are different for other countries Indagate (talk) 10:40, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- Britbox add and remove content all the time. What happens to the ID when the content is removed? Unless you have an automated system to keep it in sync with WD, you could end with a lot of broken links that imply the content is available when it is not. Vicarage (talk) 06:04, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- it's ok if an identifier is sometimes withdrawn. people can use archive.org or similar. BrokenSegue (talk) 05:29, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
