Motivation
[edit]Knotilus is an authoritative source of information on mathematical knots and links, for which both Wikipedia and Wikidata have a number of entries. It is maintained by a group of mathematicians and hosted at the w:University of Western Ontario. Providing links to Knotilus will provide Wikidata users access to a wide range of information about these entities that goes far beyond the range of information currently planned to be stored on Wikidata, as well as providing a source of potential data for those entries. If this property is created, I hope eventually to be able to fill in values for existing entries using my bot.

Note: Knotilus is currently down, but I'm hoping it will be up again soon. I'd like to keep this property proposal live, as I believe that it is clear that this is intended by its authors to be a long-lived project, and it has been running since at least 2004. In the meantime, here's a recent Internet Archive snapshot. -- The Anome (talk) 09:33, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Comment @The Anome: if the above works as a notation, it doesn't need the site to be live. If it's an identifier available also elsewhere, probably not either. Otherwise, I think we should close this as not done and ask you to do a new one once it's back. @ArthurPSmith: --- Jura 11:13, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith, Jura1: Since I can't generate the identifiers without cross-correlating with data from the Knotilus website, I think the best thing to do at this point is to close this request, and for me to re-submit it when Knotilus is (hopefully) back up again. -- The Anome (talk) 11:27, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- @The Anome: Maybe with web archive? I suppose that would be the first time we add that at creation. --- Jura 12:07, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- {{ping|Jura1} Unfortuntely not. It's a database-driven site, and the archived data is only superficial. It's a real pity, because they've got to quite some work to create an unambiguous identifier for knots: see here for details. -- The Anome (talk) 12:24, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I marked it as "withdrawn". --- Jura 12:40, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
