camera lens
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Generic
Description | Indicates the camera lens item used by the photo or video camera (subject). It can also be used in a photo item to indicate the lens used to take it. In the case of telescopes, they do not incorporate "a lens", but are themselves a lens understood as "the optical element that collects the light from the object being observed and focuses the light rays to produce an image real". |

Motivació
[edit]We are missing several properties on the subject of cameras; this, along with frame rate, Wikidata:Property_proposal/Image processor, Minimum_focusing_distance, Image stabilitzer ...., is a typical photo and video feature.
Currently the lenses have their own item. But there is no property to bind the camera to its lens.Amadalvarez (talk) 22:42, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

- Wait Wikitext is not available in descriptions. Please change the description to remove the template formatting. The name of the property should likely more specific so that a user doesn't mistake it for being about objective in the sense of a goal. It's unclear why the property isn't named lens. Lens sounds to me like it's easier to confuse. Are there reasons against calling it lens? ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 09:27, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Comment ^ Perhaps a more specific name would avoid confusion with has goal (P3712). -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 20:04, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- @ ChristianKl, Wd-Ryan: Done, a) changed wikitext; b) changed name to
camera lens
(proposal page name is not changed until you agree with this new name). BTW:objective (Q3880557) was the "subject item"; I changed it to camera lens (Q192234) to avoid meaning misunderstanding. If you're OK, I'll rename the page. Thanks, Amadalvarez (talk) 14:03, 26 December 2022 (UTC)- Thanks, this is a lot more concise, and no need to change to move the proposal page.
