Motivation
[edit]plantillustrations.org (Q62131052) is a non-commercial web source for botanical illustrations. Plant Illustrations artist ID (P6605) is already established for botanical illustrators. This property would provide a way to link to illustrations on the site for particular plant taxa. Because the site uses two different kinds of URLs for species and for higher taxa, the datatype URL seems to be preferable to using identifiers, which would probably require two separate properties. - Oppose There is no source for the identification of the illustrated plant. This is essential especially for pre Linnean literature. --Succu (talk) 21:07, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Succu: I'm not sure what you mean. If you click on an illustration found on a taxon page, there is a citation for the source. See, for example, http://plantillustrations.org/illustration.php?id_illustration=369504&id_taxon=9083&mobile=0&SID=2c06eemuq1su7ve32b9sqd1efl&language=English&thumbnails_selectable=0&selected_thumbnail=0&query_type=species&query_broad_or_restricted=broad&group=0&lay_out=0&uhd=0 or http://plantillustrations.org/illustration.php?id_illustration=357556&id_taxon=9083&mobile=0&SID=2c06eemuq1su7ve32b9sqd1efl&language=English&thumbnails_selectable=0&selected_thumbnail=0&query_type=species&query_broad_or_restricted=broad&group=0&lay_out=0&uhd=0. Are these not sufficient enough to lead a researcher to the publication where the illustration was found? AdamSeattle (talk) 21:24, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- Who did the id, saying this plate depicts Verbena officinalis (Q161417)? See example. --Succu (talk) 00:48, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
- @AdamSeattle:, could you please answer Succu's questions. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 11:02, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- @ZI Jony: I can only assume that the creator of the site, Max Antheunisse, has taken the name of what the plate depicts from the plate itself, and what it purports to illustrate. AdamSeattle (talk) 22:24, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

- Comment I don't think it should be a URL property. Instead, it should be split into separate species and taxon ID properties. This would make it more consistent and queryable. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 19:01, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
- @AdamSeattle:, what do you think about this comment. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 04:28, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- I think it is unnecessary to make it two properties when one URL would suffice. Species are one type of taxon. Why not just have one taxon property, which, as a URL property, could take either type of URL. AdamSeattle (talk) 05:06, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- However, if that's what is needed to get the proposal approved, I'm willing to split it into two separate identifier properties. AdamSeattle (talk) 05:07, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

- Support in principle. It is regrettable that id_species=6737 and id_taxon=6737 resolve differently; perhaps we need a separate property for each type? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:02, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- @AdamSeattle, Emwille, Clements.UWLib, Succu, Wd-Ryan, Pigsonthewing: I've split into two separate properties species ID and taxon ID, and marked as ready. Please feel free revert my edit if any objection! Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 07:40, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Done @AdamSeattle, Emwille, Clements.UWLib, ZI Jony, Wd-Ryan, Pigsonthewing: created as Plant Illustrations taxon ID (P12367) and Plant Illustrations species ID (P12368). Enjoy! --99of9 (talk) 01:36, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
