Motivation
[edit]Games released on the Sega Saturn (Q200912) have a serial number, per region-release.
This is used to identify the game across communities. For example:
- Radiant Silvergun (Q3416463) the Saturn Japanese release (the only one) has the serial T-32902G, which is used on the reference database Satakore, and mentionned in GameFAQs (as "Product ID"), SegaRetro (as "Code"), Gaming-History (as "Model"), Redump.org (as "Serial")
- Dragon Force (Q3038744): the IDs are used in GameFAQs, SegaRetro, Gaming-History
So, I initially wanted an ID for Sega Saturn games, since Guardiana (Q56676562) does not cover them and leaves that to Satakore.com (Q58554589). After some trial and error, I got that the serial ID could be used for a permalink to Satakore (as demonstrated above). However, it sort of turns out that a similar serial exist for Dreamcast[1] MegaDrive[2], Master-System[3] or GameGear[4] − so maybe the scope of the ID should be extended, but that would somehow defeat my original purpose…
(Quite amazing that I could not find more information online − all in all Nintendo GameID (GameCube/Wii) (P5838) and PlayStation ID (P2606) had fairly good documentation)

Discussion
[edit]- Support David (talk) 07:46, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- Support Looking at how similar the serial numbers are on software published on other Sega consoles, I'm inclined to think the scope of this request should be expanded to include them all. Are there any cons to this approach? Macrike (talk) 09:50, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
- The main drawback is that there is no URL formatter that I know of that could be used (while Saturn games at least could be linked to the Satakore database.) Jean-Fred (talk) 14:00, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
- Support Expanded scope for all Sega consoles would be good. Sir Lothar (talk) 13:55, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
