Description | ways of access or supply with goods to a piece of infrastructure: port, airport, barracks, power plants etc |
---|---|
Data type | Item |
Domain | transportation |
Example 1 | Munich Airport (Q131402) → piping (Q3679502) with type of passengers/cargo (P3437) → jet fuel (Q5361665) |
Example 2 | Munich Airport (Q131402) → industrial spur (Q1891817) with type of passengers/cargo (P3437) → jet fuel (Q5361665) |
Example 3 | Munich Airport (Q131402) → Bundesautobahn 92 (Q10847) |
Example 4 | Battersea Power Station (Q810953) → River Thames (Q19686) with type of passengers/cargo (P3437) → coal (Q24489) |
Example 5 | Schwarzenbergkaserne (Q2253820) → industrial spur (Q1891817) |
Example 6 | Port of Doraleh (Q3398478) → Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway (Q20982403) |
Example 7 | John F. Kennedy International Airport (Q8685) → AirTrain JFK (Q406683) |
Expected completeness | always incomplete (Q21873886) |
See also | connecting line (P81); connects with (P2789) |
Motivation
[edit]We need a property to link a facility or structure to its ways of access. How do passengers get to an airport? And the aviation fuel (Q1875633)? How are containers transported from a port to the hinterland? Does a power plant or military base have industrial spur (Q1891817)? AFAIK, there is no property for this.
In the latter example you could use P2789, e.g. Port of Doraleh (Q3398478) → connects with (P2789) : Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway (Q20982403); but that is not possible if you have a generic industrial spur (Q1891817) that leads to a structure because P2789 is symmetric.--Geogast 🤲 (talk) 18:16, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Discussion
[edit] Comment The examples are not very clear. Does example 1 mean Munich Airport (Q131402) access viapiping (Q3679502)
- It informs how jet fuel gets to the mentioned airport. In this case, via pipline and via a railway line (examples 1 and 2). Geogast 🤲 (talk) 17:01, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
Comment I think there are two different things being modelled here, and I'm not certain this is the correct way for either.
- The first type is for how cargo arrives at a place. This I think would be better modelled in the form
- Munich Airport (Q131402)Receivesaviation fuel (Q1875633)
delivered usingpiping (Q3679502)
- Munich Airport (Q131402)Receivesaviation fuel (Q1875633)
- The second is connected with this transport infrastructure, for which we already have connects with (P2789):
- Indeed, I tried to cover various uses for this property.
- "Receives" would be interesting, too. But IMO, it shouldn't be oneway. For instance, how is the hinterland access to a port; how does cargo get to and leave a port on the land side?
- connects with (P2789) is great in the case you mentioned; this is: where there is one determined item for the access (AirTrain in this case). But you cannot use connects with (P2789) when there is a generic type for the access: industrial spur (Q1891817) or piping (Q3679502) or even footpath (Q3352369) for example.
- I don't see that your two types are really two completely different things: Both of them are about how things or people reach or leave a place. Geogast 🤲 (talk) 18:52, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Not done, no consensus of proposed property at this time based on the above discussion, and lack of support. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 05:24, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
