The 3rd Children's and Family Emmy Awards will be presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), to honor the best in American children's and family-oriented television programming in 2023 and 2024, following on from the 2nd Children's and Family Emmy Awards, which were held in December 2023. The ceremony is set to be held on March 15, 2025, marking a permanent move for the awards, which held the first two iterations in December. The eligibility period ran from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, mirroring that of the Primetime Emmy Awards.[1]

The winners will be announced during two ceremonies, one focused on creative and technical arts and the other dedicated to performances and programming. Nominations were revealed on December 12, 2024, with Percy Jackson and the Olympians leading with sixteen nominations, followed by Sesame Street and The Spiderwick Chronicles with eleven.

Ceremony information

[edit]

In December 2023, NATAS president Adam Sharp revealed that the 3rd Children's and Family Emmy Awards would have a new scheduling in early-2025, citing feedback from industry members who felt that its previous December scheduling disrupted the holiday season.[2]

Category changes

[edit]

A number of changes to categories and eligibility criteria will take effect for the 3rd Children's and Family Emmy Awards:[3][4]

  • Outstanding Short Form Program has been split into two separate categories (Outstanding Live Action Short Form Program, and Outstanding Animated Short Form Program), with a time limit of eight minutes for both categories.
  • Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design has been split into two separate categories (Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design for a Single Camera Program, and Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design for a Multiple Camera Program)
  • Outstanding Host has been renamed Outstanding Children's Personality, and teams are no longer eligible. Programs with more than one host, co-host, narrator, or storyteller may enter each person individually.
  • Outstanding Main Title and Graphics has been renamed Outstanding Show Open, and is now inclusive of the opening music and/or theme song. All opening music and songs are now no longer eligible in either Outstanding Original Song category.
  • All acting categories are being renamed to Outstanding Performer rather than Performance
