Myth or Hoax?
[edit]The article characterizes Kalantiaw as "mythical", implying a long historical tradition that acknowledged its truth, or some basis to it. Yet it was actually written within the last 100 years, and has been established as a hoax, and a most cruel one at that which depicted pre-Hispanic Filipinos as barbaric.

If your asking me "hoax" really sounds POV no matter how you look at it. Also if you li8ved during that time, these practices weren't realy seen as "barbaric" since they were practised by Babylonians, Muslims, and even Europeans, all of which were considered "civilized".--23prootie 06:37, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Kalantiaw is a name of a ruler of the ancient history of the race. The process of his existence in the annal of history of the race had undergone centuries of admittable series of transition and passages. His name reached at this present century through oral tradition. His name makes the history of the race significant and gives wisdom to the entire world of mankind.
The Code which was named in his honor is not a hoax as described by Dr. Sonia M. Zaide; and further it was not a myth. The contents of the Code have no characteristics of being a myth. Its contents are all connoting man made document. It is a document formulated based on the present situation of their time (primitive). It implies that during that time most of the problems or issues were social, political, and economics. It is logical on their part as man to formulate and adopt some measures to address (control or prevent)the observed socio-political-economic problems of their time. Although, they were in the most primitive civilization of man, but still they were group of people who was given by God a power of reasoning and thinking, like us.
What is Maragtas? Who was Sumakwel? Who was Kalatiaw? Where and When was this Code occured?
Oral traditions, and tarsila were unanimous in their passages in describing Maragtas. The passages were connoting that Maragtas was the name of the boat of the Malayu people ( other authorities identified them as the ten Bornean chiefs)they used in their voyage.
The Moro tarsila identified them as "taw sa Guiawa" literally menas people of the Java. Many of the scholars in tarsila have offered their scholar view that the people who took the Maragtas as a boat were the group of people who did not accept the leadership style of the Emperors of the Majapahit Empire. They sailed away to find other place to live.
Kalantiaw was the name of the journal as call it today. Sumakwel was the named of the house which served as their office (torogan in some version). The term Sumakwel is equivalent to Malacanang Palace of the Philippines. Datu Puti the chief of the group was directly he himself wrote the Code, the Kalantiaw Code.
Oral tradition and tarsila suggested that the Code was written in the middle of the Kampong (means community). The present authorities in tarsila have commented the term Kampong as used in the tarsila as place found at the middle or center of any organized commnity or nation. Considering that the Philippines is an organized nation and a setting of the issue; it is possible that somewhere in Visayas Islands the place where the Code was wriiten. Filipino authors and authorities in history or records of the past made mentioned Panay and Negros. Let us examine which of the two places firstly inhabited by man. The tarsila authority(s) suggested that the ancient past of the Islands, there were only two (2) places which had been inhabited and populated. They were Panay (Aninipay) and Tbok. Out of these, both Filipino historians and the authorities in tarsila have commonly mentioned the place Panay. It is permissible and logical to say that Panay is the nearest or accurate to be the place where the Kalantiaw Code was written. The issue on "when"; scholars, authors and authorities in history and tarsila vary and differ in opinion or research. Using the data of the tarsila, mentioning that this group of people was one the groups of people who opposed and disaccepted the leadership style of the Madjapahit Emperors during the height their of power; it is practical that the migration and the date (year) of writing the Code was in 1410. This date was accurate because it was mentioned in tarsila that Shariff Aulia, the first Shariff who arrived in Iranun Bay (Illana Bay)was one of the religious leaders who opposed the leadership of the Emperors of Madjapahit Empire. He arrived and landed in Iranun Bay (Illana Bay)aixty five (65) years before the arrival of Shariff Kabunsuan, the second Shariff arrived and landed in Iranun Bay (Illana Bay). Considering the date in the work of Dr. Gregorio F. Zaide that Shariff Kabunsuan arrived in 1475, it is practical and accepteble that the year the Code was written in 1410.
Issue: the Kalantiaw Code does not portray Filipino practices, and others.
The issue is a very conclusive statement without the benefit of scrutinizing the origin. Although, race was known during prehistoric people, but there had no specific nationality. They lived with the nature. They transfered from one place to another (nomadic). The suggested written date of the Code was within the prehistoric period of the Island. Therefore, it is not correct to apply and address the Code to the Filipino peoeple. The correct one is that, the Code was applied and addressed to the Natives not Filipino. The formal and official identification of nationality of the people started during the conquest and discovries of the Orient lands. The term Filipino as nationality came to its usage and application during the reign of Ruy Lopez de Villalubos in 1543 (zaide, et. als.); named in honor of Prince Felipe (Philip) of Austria, who later became the King of Spain. Code is a set of standards or norms with peculiarity character. Originally, it is a socio-political in nature and character to resolve conflicts in a certain community. The word itself came to its usage and existence during the primitive or prehistoric period of the Philiipines. The first written code was the Kalantiaw. According to the tarsila among Iranuns, the term Kalantiaw was a name of a datu who ruled ancient Aninipay now Panay. He was of Bornean (Burunai in Iranun terminology)
