Reverted information
[edit]Information about Ms. Kelly's uncle and grandmother would not be considered notable. Unless they themselves are famous in some way, the information really does not need to be added. Ckessler 18:58, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Encyclopedia's are about information. Notable people in this world have ordinary people in their worlds that influence them, which deserve mention. Stop removing my contributions. Your time would be better spent finding and removing graffiti.... millhollin —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.227.205.253 (talk) 10:41, 25 February 2007 (UTC).
Yes, encylopedias are about information, but this one has guidelines about notability. Wikipedia is not self promotion. Ckessler 19:31, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Self Promotion, something you, Ckessler, should know a lot about... Mentioning Minka's Grandmother and Uncle are contributions to her character. One does not become notable without the less notable people in their lives. Speaking of being notable, what makes a person notable? Minka hasn't invented anything that would benefit the world. She hasn't won a Pulitzer Prize. She hasn't gripped the attention of the world with her talents and good looks. All she has done is appear in a couple of Movies and Television episodes, uttering a few not-so-memorable lines. What's next, her very own sidewalk star? You get my drift? No one is asking for a complete page dedicated to her Grandmother, only a simple mention as someone who may or may not have influenced Minka in her endeavors. God knows her mother wasn't much of an influence.... User:millhollin
That makes no sense; I am not promoting myself in any way, I'm merely following the guidelines to create appropriate articles. As for your second point, that's a nice thing to say about your niece. Even if she hasn't been in many films yet, she has done enough work to merit an article here. A photographer out of Iowa, who is not known past his hometown is not considered notable.
Aside from that, I request that you: login to your account to make edits, sign posts with ~~~~, and refrain from posting personal attacks on any page, as they violate WP guidelines. WP:NPA Ckessler 22:48, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
This is a Discussion page.... If you consider my remarks as a personal attack, then so be it. "Ckessler is the greatest Wikipedia editor in the state of Arizona" is self promotion in my book.... As for the guidelines, appropriate articles should include background. A real Encyclopedia has background, not just one-liners. Dictionaries have one-liners. And as for your comment concerning my notability outside of Iowa, you have made my point. Being a notable person is relative. You may not know me, but someone does. You may know Minka, but my neighbor doesn't....
If you read the words in parentheses after that statement, you might know that I was being sarcastic. If not: I was being sarcastic. If calling me an idiot isn't an attack, then I hope you don't talk to people in the real world that way.
I'm not going to argue with you about the relative nature of notability, because Wikipedia has hard and fast rules about what is considered notable. Ckessler 01:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
When you removed my reference to Minka's Grandmother and Uncle (2 un-noteworthy people), but yet left the reference to her mother, the one time non-notable Las Vegas Showgirl, that warranted an idiot label. You can't apply the rules indiscriminately. Besides, your rules aren't that hard and fast, as you've allowed Tim Noah to remain.......... Millhollin 10:42, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Actually, if you read WP:NPA, there are no circumstances under which it's appropriate to call me, or any one else here an idiot. I'm not applying the rules indiscriminately. Yes, a brief paragraph about someone's immediate family might be acceptable (I'm not the one making the rules), but details about their entire extended family probably isn't. Leave the sentence about her grandmother in, but leave the sentence about you out. Happy? Probably not. Stop attacking me and pushing the issue, otherwise I'd be happy to get an admin involved. I have a real problem with the way Wikipedia applies the rules for adding or deleting information concerning Minka Kelly. They will accept a web tabloid magazine (www.irishcentral.com) as a valid source to her ancestry, but will not accept the word of a direct descendant. My adding that her ancestry included a direct connection to the Dutch (her grandmother's native country) was removed for lack of source validity. How ridiculous!! I am the source!! Who in the media is doing the fact checking?? The editors of Wikipedia are bent on keeping any reference to her grandmother, her true ancestry, out of Minka's biography. Millhollin (talk) 02:47, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'm the son of Elvis and I'm telling you, he's alive. So Wikipedia must say this. Spot the problem? Wikipedia does have a policy of assume good faith, but the ability for someone else to verify from a reliable source takes precedence over practically everything else. Personally, I have issues with using gossip mags etc as sources but there are some precautions in place (for example, the reliable sources noticeboard can be used to get consensus about whether a published source should be considered reliable or not). What we cannot do is assume that I am being honest when I say that I'm the son of Elvis ... or you are the Minka Kelly's father's cousin etc. It's pretty much the same with a (good) printed encyclopedia. One way round it, if it bothers you that much, would be to ask her to include the information on her own official website: it could go in here then. Now I'm off to have a word with my father ... - Sitush (talk) 06:17, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't claim to be the son of Elvis... All of my attempts to correct or add to this biography were made in good faith, but Wikipedia's policy of using web and print tabloids as reliable sources trumps me every time. It makes me reluctant to take Wikipedia seriously. Tabloids are good for current events, not for historical value. Minka has an "official" website? That's news to me. Even if she did, her thirst for family history is non-existent. She didn't even inform the little family she has left of my sister's demise. Anyway, I'm done trying to keep this correct... Millhollin (talk) 17:07, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- You are clearly bitter and this is one good example of why Wikipedia has policies regarding conflicts of interest. - Sitush (talk) 18:28, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Who the hell is in charge here? Someone needs to do their homework. This is utterly laughable. My sisters name is not Maureen Perez Kelly, it's Maureen Dumont Kelly, and she is not of Italian/Puerto Rican descent, she is Dutch/Irish. Maureen's father (Gordon Lee Kelly) was of Irish descent and our mother (Renee Yvonne Dumont) was of Dutch descent. I would make the edit, but as you can see by the previous discussions, my word has no merit, even though I am a blood family member and have more knowledge on this subject than all the tabloid interviews cited here. You've managed to make my sister Italian/Puerto Rican. What is next? Well, let's make her African American and turn my family history completely upside down. You expect your contributors to be unbiased, but I can't sit idly by and watch you massacre my family's history. Michael Dumont Millhollin (talk) 23:25, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Left Friday Night Lights
[edit]Minka Kelly left the show "Friday Night Lights" in 2009. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.105.117.109 (talk • contribs) 20:43, 6 June 2010
Chris Evans
[edit]The relationship with Evans lasted only a few weeks in 2007 and the reconciliation now is simply a rumor. Evans has stated in the past that he does not remain in contact with ex's as he thinks it is unhealthy. This blurb referencing Evans in no way seems noteworthy and is not appropriate for Kellys page. It should be removed immediately. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.196.156.200 (talk) 08:58, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
Minka Kelly was not Richard Ney's granddaughter, apparently
[edit]There is no evidence Kelly was Ney's granddaughter. He had no children and only one stepdaughter, who has no apparent connection to Minka Kelly. Quis separabit? 00:05, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

/* Personal life */
[edit]In 2017, Minka Kelly had a highly-publicized relationship with actor Jesse Williams, and yet it continues to be omitted from her Wikipedia entry. I've added this information before, but it was previously deleted on the grounds that the cited source was deemed "tabloid journalism." This time, I used an acceptable source (the New York Daily News), yet it was deleted again. An editor named 331dot gave the dubious explanation that it came from a gossip section and that such sections have fluctuating fact-checking practices. That of course is preposterous, being that the New York Daily News is a reputable publication of long standing, and as such it has uniform fact-checking standards for ALL of its sections (as any reputable publication would). Moreover, the New York Daily News has been satisfactorily cited as a source on myriad Wikipedia pages, but for some reason it's suddenly not acceptable when it comes to this high-profile, interracial relationship. Very inconsistent. Very suspect. The relationship should be included on Kelly's page, as well as Williams's page, period.

So, I suppose confirmation from Jesse Williams himself in a Daily Beast article constitutes "gossip" as well? (And I can go on. There are countless articles confirming it...because they dated for nearly a year, Edward R. Murrow.)

Scrub Nurse
[edit]There's something wrong or at least ambiguous about the statement "Her exposure to the medical field spurred her to attend school for a year studying to become a surgeon's assistant; afterwards she worked as a scrub nurse."
According to the Wikipedia article “Surgical nursing,” “a surgical nurse, also referred to as a theatre nurse or scrub nurse, specializes in perioperative care, providing care to patients before, during and after surgery. To become a theatre nurse, Registered Nurses or Enrolled Nurses must complete extra training.” This means Minka Kelly would already have been an RN. JMeggett (talk) 14:33, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
