Italics

[edit]

Given WP:ITALICS and the way titles of ballets are usually treated, would it be a good idea to italicize all the links to ballets in this template? Maybe it would hamper legibility. Shoplifter (talk) 17:55, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

legibility

[edit]

I think you're concern about legibility is well taken. The typesize in a template is so small that italics would induce instant eyestrain — and the purpose of italicizing is to make titles stand out in the midst of plaintext. — Robert Greer (talk) 18:08, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PS I like the way you incorporated List of Jewels stagings into the template! — Robert Greer (talk) 18:12, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think you're right about the legibility effect of italicizing.

However, if the ballets were sorted by period or similarly divided, italicizing could probably still be made without a marked loss of legibility (cf. eg. Template:Alfred Hitchcock).

This would also generally improve the organization and accessibility of the template. Unfortunately I lack competence about the subject to make the appropriate periodization.

I'm glad you like the way I added the stagings; I think you've done a great job on both the template and the related articles. :-) Shoplifter (talk) 18:47, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you !

There are so many ballet articles to be written — and so few people writing about ballet on Wiki. — that the template will probably stay the way it is.
