I'm a German computer scientist and computational linguist.
I use the same nickname on several other Wikipedias,
but I'm really active only on the German-language and English-language ones.
The community of the German-language Wikipedia voted in favor of making the Media Viewer opt-in. (There were also RfC's on this WP and on Commons.) The Wikimedia Foundation said they would not honor that decision. Two German admins wheel-warred over the complete deactivation of the Media Viewer on the German-language Wikipedia (which was not covered by the above-mentioned poll), A Wikimedia Germany employee used the hastily implemented superprotect feature to decide the wheel war in favor of the Foundation. The Board was OK with that. So I refrained from making article edits for a week, to help remind the Foundation of whose work raises the money that pays their wages. In case anyone of them is willing to listen:
Don't use us as your beta (actually, alpha) testers without even asking us first.
