Proposal to move current Hashemites page to Hashemites of Jordan

The Hashemite main page should lead directly to the current disambiguation,instead of going to the Jordan recent branch.

• Banu Hashem tribe
• Hashemites of Jordan (current dynasty)
• Hashemites of Iran (current Ayatollah)
• Hashemites of Morocco (current dynasty)
• Hashemite dynasties (historic)

Marcus Aurelius

Hello! I just saw that you recently nominated the article Marcus Aurelius for "Featured Article" status, but it did not become an FA. That is not surprising, since the FA standards are extremely high and Marcus Aurelius is an extremely significant historical figure, both for his role as an emperor and his role as a philosopher, meaning that any article about him would have to be in absolute top-shape to qualify for FA status. (I happen to have recently nominated the article Pythagoras for FA status; it did not become an FA either.) I would recommend nominating Marcus Aurelius for "Good Article" status, which I think would be completely attainable for that article. Also, if you look at current FAs, a very large number of them were previously GAs before being promoted, so bringing the article to GA status could be another step towards FA. --Katolophyromai (talk) 01:49, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Age additions

Hello. You added ages to many late Seleucid articles, however, the age estimation need two fixed date to calculate. Antiochus X is considered to have been born c. 113 BC and died either in 92 or 88 BC; those are fixed dates, and you can calculate that he died aged either 20 or 25. Philip I does not have such precession; he was born between A and B, and died in A or B. You have no fixed numbers to calculate. The into in in the article itself to allow the reader to get an idea and do his own calculations, but editors should not indulge in highly speculative statements in the infobox for example. Same goes for Cleopatra Selene. Being born between 135 and 130 does not give a specific year, hence it is speculative and does not belong in the infobox. For example, if we think someone was born between 1910 and 1950 and we know he died in 1990, then it is not really acceptable to write his age at death between 40 to 80.

Another point, in the article of Seleucus VI you wrote that the age of Antiochus XI in 94 BC provides a range of possible ages for Seleucus VI. This is a clear breach of verifiability policy. The source does not connect the age of Antiochus to any possible ages of Seleucus. It is a logical conclusion ofcourse, but one that needs to be taken by the readers, and editors are not allowed to make it unless it is directly stated in a reliable source.--Attar-Aram syria (talk) 13:28, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

Marcus Aurelius Book

Just a comment. If you do a google search for "a companion to marcus aurelius study.nju.edu " the first or second link should lead to a PDF document containing the 500+ page book of this publication

I saved a PDF copy for myself...although my main interest is not Marcus himself and I do few edits on wikipedia. On page 87, is the only authentic epigraphic evidence of Marcus Aurelius' rain miracle. There are many interesting article and the copy is only 3.11 MB. I assume you already have it. Hi, I just wanted to make a quick comment about your username. As per Wikipedia:Username policy, a non-Latin username is allowed, but can be problematic. From Wikipedia:Signatures;

Editors with non-Latin usernames are welcome to edit in Wikipedia. However, non-Latin scripts, such as Arabic, Armenian, Chinese, Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew, Indic scripts, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Thai and others, are illegible to most other contributors of the English Wikipedia. Not everyone uses a keyboard that has immediate access to non-Latin characters, and names that cannot be pronounced cannot be retained in memory. As a courtesy to the rest of the contributors, users with such usernames are encouraged to sign their posts (at least in part) with Latin characters. For an example refer to User:Παράδειγμα, who signs his posts as Παράδειγμα/Paradigma.

I understand your username is apparently Macedonian, and translates to "Vecochel". I'm not sure if that is your name or what the significance of that is for you, but if you would consider adding that, or another Latinized name or word to your signature, it would make interacting with you a great deal easier for your fellow editors. To attach a Latinized word or name to your signature, just go to "Preferences", and on the first page, under "User Profile", scroll down to "Signatures". There you will see a text box where you can customize your signature to your liking (you will notice a large number of unique, colorful and creative signatures among the various talk pages here) and you will be able to modify your signature with an add-on in Latin script that will help others identify you and communicate with you. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). • A final comment...if I may! G. Hays' introduction is on page 7 to 67 of the book and it is very good. I thought that the only remaining intact version of meditations was the Vatican Museum copy since the Xylander copy was lost. That is indeed true...BUT if the Xylander copy did not survive into the 16th century, no one would care about MA's Meditations...since the Vatican copy is almost unusable.

Why? As Hays says on page 52 of his introduction: "The fall of Constantinople to the Turks in 1453 led to an exodus of scholars, bringing with them the Greek texts that inspired the Italian Renaissance. The Meditations must have been among them. Yet even at this date the work’s survival hung by a thread. The only complete manuscript to survive is a fourteenth-century codex (now in the Vatican), which is riddled with errors. The first printed edition did not appear until 1559, when Wilhelm Holzmann (known as Xylander) produced a text from what seems to have been a more reliable manuscript. That manuscript, unfortunately, has not survived. But even at its best it was a very imperfect witness to what Marcus himself wrote."

In other words, if the copyist of the Xylander version of Meditatiuons was not more careful, MA's Meditations would be considered a lost work today sadly. The Meditations survived on just a single reliable manuscript...and it went into mass print before it was lost forever. How lucky is that? Very lucky indeed. Thanks so much for all you do. I've already acknowledged your hard work and I am pleased to see it continue. I do, however, have a little request. Could you please try to make less serial edits, and instead combine them into a single change and please try to use edit summaries more often. It may seem minor, but it is really helpful to other editors to have less changes numerically. For instance, the 4 changes you made to Marcus Aurelius, between 18:28 and 18:36 could have been combined with a comment like "CU of succession content"; or the 6 changes you made between 21:42 and 21:57 could likewise have been combined into a single final edit with an appropriate summary.

I have already given you my personal user award, the Barnstar of Tacitus, and am considering giving you a second one. But as someone who reviews the changes to this and other pages, this would make my efforts easier. Informata ob Iniquitatum (talk) 01:57, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia

Hi! It looks as if User:Векочел/Sons of Antiochus VIII was created by copying stuff without attribution from a variety of other Wikipedia pages. You're free and welcome to re-use Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, but our licence does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum by an appropriate edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page (e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution). It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk-pages of both the source page(s) and destination page. Please provide attribution in this case (or tell me where you copied the stuff from and I'll do it for you). Hi Векочел, hereit looks as though you are removing the emdashes I added and changing them for unspaced endashes. To comply with the Wikipedia style guide – with which articles should comply to get through FA review – If you want to use endashes please use them with a space on either side; like this: text here – test here; please see the MOS. Please use edit summaries, particularly if you are going to remove references

You've been told about this before. At Salman of Saudia Arabia you've just removed several references. I've reverted you - maybe you had a good reason, but you didn't provide one so it's impossible to tell. If an IP was doing that I might block them. Doug Weller talk 18:56, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

And you are still doing it – I've just reverted some of your edits to Mahathir Mohamad‎ because you removed references without leaving any edit summary to explain why. Our advice on edit summaries reads, in part: "It is considered good practice to provide a summary for every edit" and "To avoid accidentally leaving edit summaries blank, you can select "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" on the Editing tab of your user preferences". That represents community consensus, and should not be ignored unless there's a very good reason for doing so. If references are duplicated they should be combined under a single reference name, not removed – please ask here if you don't know how to do that. Basil I

Hi. I have quickfailed your GA nomination of Basil I because the article is a long way from being complete. Again, for what feels like the n-th time, please don't nominate until you are certain that the criteria are met, and have seriously worked on meeting them yourself. Taking other people's work and copyediting around is not the way to success. Just a couple of days ago we had the same discussion: Wikipedia is not about racking up GA/FA nominations, but about building an encyclopedia. This pattern of behaviour is troubling: it contributes nothing to the encyclopedia, and only creates additional work and distracts other editors from more productive things. Hi, this article is nowhere near GA status, and would require considerable improvement before reaching it (at least twice the size of the current article). Primary sources discussion and bibliography are missing; some very important sources are missing (such as this Ronald Syme's article, and many others for example here). I am tempted to fail it right now, but can let you several weeks to improve it if you wish.

You can start by including the contents of the very rich article from Syme I listed above. It gives many details on his career, associates, reign, his appointments, the reasons for his failure, etc. Try to also look at the sources Syme gives and include them as well.
