[edit]Hello. I wanted to let you know that your recent edit(s) to the Total Recall (1990 film) plot summary have been removed because they added a significant amount of unnecessary detail. Please avoid excessive detail and high word counts when editing plot summaries/synopses. You may read the plot summary edit guides to learn more about contributing constructively to plot summaries/synopses. There are also specific guidelines for films, musicals, television episodes, anime/manga, novels and non-fiction books. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 03:30, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
It is not unneccessary. Edgemar doesn't just "explain" things to Quaid. The current synopsis for the movie on its wiki page is based on no peer reviewed material, doesn't contain a single reference and thus doesn't have more weight than my revision. For the hero Quaid, the choice of accepting Edgemar's red pill and his "guidance" or refusing it and shooting him (swhich he does) is pivotal in the movie, it must be mentioned one way or another. It's crucial to the scenario. for example it is mentioned Edgemar sweats and is thus leading the hero to believe he's been fooled, this is a detail too, but you decided to keep it , though it is as important as swallowing or not the pill. Both details must be kept and if the way I wrote it up isn't good enough and or too lengthy, then have someone summarize it better while including said element. It is so important it "inspired" certain movie directors in 1999 to more or less plagiarize the sequence in question and claim it for themselves as an original concept unashamedly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a01:e0a:208:4130:c1e9:a3c1:ece9:85df (talk • contribs)
- In your opinion it's not unnecessary. So, find a way to add the material you'd like to add while keeping the total word count of the summary under 700 words, or ask for assistance or a consensus to ignore WP:FILMPLOT at the article's Talk page. You have a couple of options now. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 03:53, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- current synopsis excerpt:
- In his hotel room, Quaid is confronted by Lori and Dr. Edgemar from Rekall, who explains that Quaid is still at Rekall on Earth, trapped in his fantasy memory and on the verge of permanent brain damage ( 37 words 201 characters)
- what I propose including the pill or no pill choice :
- In his hotel room, Quaid confronts Lori and Dr. Edgemar from Rekall who ask him to take a red pill to safely escape Rekall's artificial martian adventure memory or face permanent brain damage in the real world (37 words 209 characters)
- What do you think? Same word count, checked with an online tool https://wordcounter.net/. Being as brief as possible. 2A01:E0A:208:4130:C1E9:A3C1:ECE9:85DF (talk) 04:14, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
